Wealthy countries face the problem of food loss, while climate change and geopolitical risks are resulting in poverty, hunger and inequality.

While it is relieving that the purchased preserved foods reached their expiration date without needing to be used, disposing of such large quantities of food and drink creates feelings of guilt.

We aim to provide a path toward the resolution of these two contradictory propositions.

Target2 : Reducing hunger to zero

In Japan, there is a fact that food stockpiled for disaster prevention is discarded for a fee after its expiration date has passed.

飢餓をゼロに

Target6 : Delivering safe water and toilets worldwide

It is estimated that two billion people lack water facilities and 494 million people lack toilets. Rapid climate change is expanding areas suffering from chronic water shortages, and there are even calls to drain fishery resources. Water is essential for sustaining life in all its forms.

In Japan, preserved water for disaster prevention stockpiling and simple toilets are being disposed of due to expiration at great cost.

Target 10 : Let’s eliminate inequality between people and nations.

There are many people in the world who are disadvantaged and discriminated against due to no fault of their own. The reality is that these inequalities prevent people from escaping poverty.

Japan is a disaster-prone country. The biggest barriers that foreigners face during a disaster in Japan are religious restrictions and language problems.

Target12 : Responsible production and responsible consumption

In Japan, a system has been established for the mass production, mass consumption, and mass disposal of food products, and six million tons of food products are disposed of annually. In response, the Food Recycling Act was enacted to promote recycling and utilization of recyclable food resources, and efforts are being made to halve the amount of business-related food loss by FY2030.

As you may have guessed, the six million tons of food loss includes preserved foods and preserved water for disaster prevention stockpiling.

Target13 : Concrete measures to address climate change

Global warming is caused by the carbon dioxide we emit, and we can aid in preventing global climate change by stopping the wasteful use of electricity, mass production, consumption, and disposal, and by putting the 3Rs into practice.

The urban heat island effect caused by rising average temperatures. It is becoming a necessity around the world to prepare for natural disasters, such as heat waves, droughts, guerrilla rainstorms, and unexpectedly strong typhoons.

Target17 : Let’s partner up to achieve our goals.

Partnerships are essential in achieving a sustainable world. Nations as well as corporations, citizens, and academia must actively work together to create an environment in which all people on Earth can live in peace.

We invite manufacturers, users, and all people and companies involved in the process of reuse to work together with us to achieve goals via partnerships.

Sustainable Disaster Prevention System
SUSTAINABLE SYSTEM

Our goal is to create a Sustainable Disaster Prevention System that can stop the mass disposal of disaster prevention stockpiles of food and beverage and safely reuse them.

n the disaster prevention industry, costly mass disposal has been the norm in the replacement process that occurs at the end of each storage period.
As food loss becomes a social issue, we believe that this should not be allowed to continue.

The products in our 7-year preservation series have a shelf life of over 8 years.

We have named our efforts to make use of this period of leeway to deliver the products to those in need in Japan and overseas through donations instead of disposing of them the “Sustainable Disaster Prevention System.”
Although we have just begun, our efforts have been endorsed by many customers, and the circle of donations to elementary and junior high schools, local children’s cafeterias, and food banks in Japan and overseas is rapidly expanding.

We will continue to work toward achieving the SDGs and realizing a sustainable society so that this system will one day become the norm.
